What If I Don’t Get A Hospital Bed?

Sometimes patients choose not to get a hospital bed, even though a health professional has suggested that they should. There are many downsides to not getting a hospital bed when you require one.
Loss of Independence
Hospital beds, unlike normal beds, have adjustable positioning. This means that you can elevate the backrest up to 90 degrees and sit up without struggling. This means more independence in your own home! Without a hospital bed you will lose this chance at independence.
One of the risks associated with not getting a hospital bed in your home is bedsores. When people spend too much time in bed the pressure on their bodies can cause skin to become trapped between the bone and the bed. This leads to very painful sores. Hospital beds allow the user to adjust the position of the bed which lets them shift the pressure points around and allows them to more easily get out of bed to be mobile. Plus, at ADAPT Home Health Care, our hospital bed package includes an upgraded mattress which helps redistribute pressure, preventing bedsores without movement!
One of the main concerns that patients families have is the safety of their loved one. One big risk that hospital beds help eliminate in the home is the fear of falling out of bed. Hospital beds come with bed rails which helps keep the individual safe and in bed. Bed rails are also a great assistance to the user. They can be used as support for getting in and out of the bed and they can also be used to help the user reposition themselves. These safety and wellness benefits are only achieved with a hospital bed.
By not utilizing the benefits of a hospital bed, the caregiver that you have hired may not be able to complete their job to the best of their abilities. Hospital beds, unlike standard beds, allow the caregiver to elevate the patient to their level. They also allow the caregiver to assist the patient in leaving the bed.
There are several negative consequences to not getting a hospital bed when you require one. Although hospital beds may not be ideal, they can help prevent several negative outcomes as listed above.
